We are delighted to announce that the £260 million Broadway Shopping Centre in Bradford, on which we acted as project manager for construction compliance, has been named best large commercial building in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards showcase buildings and design teams which have had to overcome difficult technical or construction issues and building site constraints. They highlight innovative and creative solutions and building control professionalism which produce safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects.
The Broadway was the largest shopping centre to open in the UK during 2015, with around 75 retail units covering an area of over 570,000 square feet. The construction phase alone created 12,500 jobs. The completed project has led to 2,500 new permanent opportunities within the city centre.
Edmond Shipway played a pivotal role in the delivery of the scheme, providing support to developer Westfield during the completion and handover of eight phases of works comprising more than 70 restaurants and retail units, multi-storey car parking and centre management facilities. We were also responsible for overseeing the tenant fit-out of the build, as well as managing the interface between the construction teams and operational management division.
Commenting on the award, Jamie Crouch, Director of Edmond Shipway said: “This is the second year running that one of our projects has been successful in the large commercial build category, having picked up the award for Center Parcs Woburn Forest in 2015, and we are proud to have played our part in the creation of yet another fantastic scheme. We were able to build up an excellent relationship with Westfield Europe Ltd and we look forward to working with them again on future programmes.”
